Kelantan Needs At Least 14,000 Low Cost Houses For The Poor
KOTA BAHARU, March 2 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan government has to build at least 14,000 units of low cost houses to enable the low income earners to own their own houses.

Opposition chief in the Kelantan State Assembly, Datuk Md Alwi Che Ahmad, said the 313 units already built by the state government was not enough and it also proved the state government's incapability to provide such houses.

"The answer given at the State Assembly sitting of 313 units already built is too small. My constituency, Kok Lanas, needs at least 1,000 houses. Therefore, the state government should build at least 14,000 houses in the state," he told reporters after the State Assembly sitting Wednesday.

The issue on houses for the poor was touched by the Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V, in his speech when opening the State Assembly sitting on Tuesday.

Md Alwi said the state government should carry out a survey to determine the number of low cost houses that should be built to provide opportunities for the low income earners to also own a house.

"Instead, when the state government is doing is to build houses with the private sector which is only for their benefits, not for the people who are poor," he added.
