Affordable Housing Projects Worth RM44 Million Approved In Sabah
KOTA KINABALU, April 13 (Bernama) -- Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB) has approved 648 affordable housing schemes, worth RM44 million, for low-income groups in Sabah, said Chairman Datuk Ir Idris Haron.
He said developers of the project abided by stringent requirements which, among others, required that the land for development be owned by them.
As for buyers, they must have a household income of less than RM1,500 a month, married and do not own a house," he told reporters after a letter of intent handing over ceremony to 28 contractors in Penampang, near here.
Idris said houses in such schemes were 30 per cent subsidised by the government and the response from buyers were overwhelming.
"Prospective buyers only pay between RM45,000 and RM50,000 for the house which works up to only 75 per cent of the cost.
"Normally, they will pay a monthly installment of RM150 for between 22 years and 25 years and that is why this housing project appeals to the low-income," he said.
Idris, however, expressed regret at the lack of revolving fund to meet the overwhelming demand for such housing from buyers.
